Holy Sacrifice of the Mass--Click Picture for lecture by Fr. Larry
"At times one encounters an extremely reductive understanding of the Eucharistic mystery. Stripped of its sacrificial meaning, it is celebrated as if it were simply a fraternal banquet." -- Pope John Paul II
Much of the presentation linked to the picture above, comes from Dr. Scott Hahn's understanding of the Fourth Cup of the Passover. For a deeper understanding of the Eucharist as the fulfillment of the Passover sacrifice and the Mass as that one definitive sacrifice made present for us see Scott Hahn's presentation of the Fourth Cup
Watch video of Bishop Schneider explaining receiving Holy Communion (click Pope's picture)
Although each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, at his choice, if any communicant should wish to receive the Sacrament in the hand, in areas where the Bishops’ Conference with the recognitio of the Apostolic See has given permission, the sacred host is to be administered to him or her. However, special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful. -- Redemptionis Sacramentum #92 ( March 2004)
